She was believed to be heading in the direction of St David’s walk.  

Sarah’s husband, Bernard Townsend, has yet to be interviewed by the police but gave the following statement “your daughter is missing you, please report to the police”. The couple have a 12 year old daughter together and she was the one that made the initial call to report that her mother had gone missing.

Inspector John Jones, South Wales police say “we have had several searched going on to find Sarah, both on the ground and in the air in the form of helicopters”. He went on to say that the police reported to the report as soon as they could. The police are regarding any information that they might have about the domestic violence to themselves, and will not relay any information.

Sarah’s husband, Bernard Townsend, head of communications at Glamorgan police station, has not been interviewed by police yet as he is caring for the couple’s 12 year old daughter at the family home. The 12 year old daughter made the 999 call after an argument between her parents.

The police are treating any information they have regarding the possible causes of the domestic incident as private at this time.

Inspector Jones appealed directly to Sarah herself saying “your daughter is missing you, please report to the police.”

The search so far has included police dogs with handlers, police helicopters and the earlier televised police press conference appealing for public help. Anyone with any information that could help should contact South Wales Police on 01443 456128.

Inspector John Jones said that it was standard to respond to such incidents in this way due to the vulnerability of Mrs Townsend. The call was received by police at 11.25 pm and they attended the property at 11.30 pm, by which time Mrs Townsend had been missing for five minutes.

Glamorgan Police received a distress call from the 12-year-old daughter of the couple, reporting a disturbance between her parents. The call was made at 23:25, but by the time police arrived at 23:30, Sarah Townsend had already left her home.

In a press conference given by Inspector John Jones, it was revealed that Sarah was believed to have consumed medication and that she was in a vulnerable state of mind. She was last seen heading towards St. David’s Walk and has been described as ‘possibly suicidal’. No further details were available to how much medication the officer’s wife is thought to have taken.

Bernard Townsend, Sarah’s husband, is currently head of Community Relations for the Glamorgan Police Force. No details were given regarding the domestic disturbance that occurred before Mrs. Townsend became missing.

Police have made appeals to both Sarah and the general public. It is known that Sarah was carrying a black handbag, but with no money or mobile phone. Inspector John Jones asked Mrs. Townsend to contact family or friends, also commenting that ‘her daughter misses her’.

Before the police had arrived at 23.30 it was believed that the mother, Sarah had fled the family home on a large amount of medication, leaving her very venerable.

An appeal has been put out to all members of the community to keep an eye out for the woman.

All family and friends in the area have been questioned as to the wear about of this very fragile and venerable woman.

The emergency is not over; there the water is still high around the Walham area and there are fears that there could still be some high peaks that could happen around the Severn basin and the problems could last for several more days to come. Engineers of the Severn Trent are beginning the process of inspection and making the plant safe, this will be a two day process, with water hoping to be returning to homes within in the next seven to 14 days.

Bowsers have been sent out to distribute two to three million litres of water to those that have been left without clean drinking water.
Chief Constable Tim Brian added: “If people continue to exercise common sense then I’m sure that we can get through the next few difficult days.”

A further press conference was held today at Gloucestershire Constabulary’s headquarters to provide an update regarding the flooding situation and detail action being taken.

Chief Constable Dr Tim Brain said: “If people continue to exercise common sense and good will I’m sure we can get through the next few difficult days.

Walham substation continued to work supplying homes overnight in the Gloucestershire area.

Anthony Perry from the Environment agency said: “Levels have peaked but rivers will remain very full for a while ahead.”

The Met Office forecast further rain expected later in the week should not have much impact.

Dr Shona Arora, Director of public Health added: “Please do boil bowser water as a precautionary measure. For babies, boiled bowser water is the water of choice but bottle water can be used if this is not available.”
